Trauma can be defined as "a deeply distressing or disturbing experience." A perceived threat which is considered to be something that "could happen" is also a serious threat to one's emotional and physical well being. If you are being treated for any traumatic experience(s) please make sure your mental health professional has the appropriate training and experience needed to help you genuinely heal.

- recurring nightmares or other sleep disturbances
- quick to startle
- Pacing behaviors
- Unable to stop crying
- Unable to focus or concentrate
- Unable to stop thinking about a particular event or situation
- easily agitated or recent increased irritability
- panic attacks
- fear of leaving home or going to certain places
- isolation from loved ones or close friends
- emotional numbing or emotional distancing
- self destructive behaviors (such as use of alcohol or drugs, excessive spending or gambling, excessive eating or refusing to eat, etc.)
- Physical self harm (cutting, etc.)
- physically shaking in various types of environments
- overwhelming fear of loud noises
